YOUNGSTOWN — Police seized a loaded .45-caliber handgun Monday and arrested a man accused of shooting his girlfriend with it.

Gerald Banks, 47, of Kensington Avenue, is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in municipal court. He is in the Mahoning County jail on charges of domestic violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police were called about 11 a.m. to a different Kensington Avenue home on the North Side, where reports said a woman told officers Banks was arguing with her about going to a store the night before and threatened to shoot her. The woman told police Banks had a gun with him, reports said.

A witness told police there was a gun in the closet. Officers checked the closet with permission from the victim and found the gun there, reports said.
