Youngstown police investigating shooting of South Side man


YOUNGSTOWN — Police are trying to determine how a Hunter Avenue man was shot late Monday evening.

Officers called to the 25-year-old man's South Side home for a report of a shooting found him inside and blood on the floor and couch, reports said.

The man told police he shot himself with a gun he found outside and was "messing around with it" when he was shot, reports said.

Reports said police found five spent shell casings inside, a gun and two bullet holes in the wall. The victim was shot in the armpit and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
