Co-defendant in 2017 homicide investigated for witness intimidation

YOUNGSTOWN — The co-defendant in the death of a woman whose body was found in a freezer last summer is being investigated for intimidating a witness.

Reports said a man Friday made a report with police that said Katrina Layton, 35, free on bail after pleading to reduced charges in the death of Shannon Elizabeth Graves, sent him a Facebook message with a thumbs-up sign.

The man made the report about 6 p.m. Friday.

Layton is not allowed to have any contact with witnesses in the trial of the man charged with the aggravated murder of Graves, Arturo Novoa. The man who made the report is a witness in the case.

Detectives are investigating. No charges have been filed.
