Second Hanni drops out of court race; D’Apolito unopposed

YOUNGSTOWN — Holly Hanni has removed herself from contention for the democratic nomination for the 7th District Court of Appeals in May’s primary, according to Board of Elections officials.

This will leave Judge David D’Apolito, who presides over the Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown, running unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

Hanni’s brother Mark Hanni had already dropped out of the race.

D’Apolito will face Judge Kathleen Bartlett, who was sworn in to the 7th District Court of Appeals this week, who will run unopposed for the Republican nomination.

Bartlett replaced Justice Mary DeGenaro, who left the court of appeals when Gov. John Kasich appointed her to the Ohio Supreme Court.
