Hearing starts Thursday in Jacob LaRosa aggravated murder sentencing

WARREN

A two-day hearing begins Thursday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court where testimony will be heard to aid Judge W. Wyatt McKay in sentencing Jacob LaRosa, 18, who killed his elderly neighbor three years ago.

LaRosa, of Lafayette Avenue in Niles, pleaded no contest Feb. 13 to aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and attempted rape in the March 31, 2015, killing of his neighbor, Marie Belcastro 94, in her home on Cherry Street in Niles.

LaRosa used a Mag flashlight to beat Belcastro to death, prosecutors said. LaRosa accepted a plea agreement early on the second day of jury selection in his trial.

LaRosa could get life in prison without eligibility for parole or one of the other life prison sentences. Judge McKay will decide.
