ASSOCIATIONS

Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will meet Oct. 10 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Networking will begin at 6 p.m., and dinner will follow at 6:30. Cindy Best of Howard Hanna Real Estate will speak about how she got started in the business and the current trends in real estate. The menu will include Southern-baked chicken, Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, salad, gelatin, applesauce, and for dessert, apple cake. The cost is $18. Trumbull Retired Teachers Association will meet at noon Oct. 10 at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre, 123 N. Main St., Niles. State Sen. Joe Schiavone will be the guest speaker. The scholarship committee will have a bake sale, and members are asked to donate baked goods and arrive early. Members can also purchase table arrangements by Mary Fuller with profits donated to Trumbull Mobile Meals. The community services committee will collect canceled stamps, candle wax, cellphones, eyeglasses, hearing aids and yarn. Call 330-759-1305 to make a luncheon reservation.

William Penn Association, Branch 28, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eat ’n Park Restaurant, 8051 Market St., Boardman. Upcoming events will be discussed.

McDonald Sideliners meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the high school.

Girard Band Boosters will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the high school.

CLASSES

Campbell Memorial January and June Classes of 1948 will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Denny’s Restaurant in Boardman.

Campbell Memorial High School January and June Classes of 1950 will meet for lunch at noon Wednesday at Bedford Trails Golf Course in Lowellville.

CLUBS

Mahoning Valley Chapter of Polka Dot Powerhouse will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Wolf Tavern, 1295 Boardman-Canfield Road. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the speaker will be Sydney Campanaro, community development manager for the American Cancer Society, Eastern Central Ohio Division. LEAGUES

The GFWC/Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League is hosting its second Quarter Auction on Oct. 21 at Saint Nicholas Social Hall, 764 Fifth Street, Struthers. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bidding starts at 6:30. Tickets are $10 each, and the proceeds will benefit local charities. Chips, popcorn, water and soda will be available for purchase. LIBRARY FRIENDS

Friends of the Poland Library will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday for a potluck luncheon after the business meeting and program. Members are asked to take a salad or casserole. Officers will provide dessert. Debbie Liptak, development director of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be the speaker. The topic will be “All That’s New at the Library.” Donations of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs for the Poland Library book cart may be brought to all meetings. Meetings are open to the public, and new members are welcome. Dues are $10, yearly.

POLITICAL CLUBS

Canfield Republican Women’s Club dinner meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday with a candidate meet-and-greet at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. John Williams will be the guest speaker. His topic will be Article V (Convention of States) of the U.S. Constitution, and why the Founders believed it was important. Some local candidates will make an appearance as well. Trumbull County Federated Democratic Women’s Club will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Perkins Restaurant, 1953 Niles-Cortland Road, near Eastwood Mall. The guest speaker will be Tim Schaffner, executive director of Trumbull County Children’s Services. Membership chairwoman Diane Alejars will be collecting club dues. Members unable to attend are asked to mail dues to Diane by Dec. 31. New members are welcome at this time. St. Rose Quilting Group will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the parish house.

SERVICE CLUBS

Girard-Liberty Kiwanis will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Golf Dome, 1300 N. State St., Girard.

SINGLES

D.A.R.E. Singles Group meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road. The group has scheduled the following activities: Monday, meet at Dairy Queen in Cornersburg for dessert at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, walking in Mill Creek Park Walking Trail at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday. installation of officers and game night at the church at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, movie night at Regal Cinema in Austintown; meet in the lobby at 6:30 p.m.

SOCIETIES

Girard Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Barnhisel house, 1011 N. State St.

McDonald Historical Society meets at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Woodland Park Retirement Center, 550 Ohio Ave.

Niles Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 in the Westenfield Room. Plans are being made for the 2018 calendar, which will feature historical pictures of Niles and will be sold for $10. Calendars may be reserved by calling 330-652-8329.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Codependency and Grief Support Group will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Sheepfold Ministries, 233 North Ave. Sharon, Pa. A meeting also will take place at 7 p.m. at the care center of the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home, North Main St., Hubbard. Group sessions are free but participants must register to participate. The support group was formed to reach out to help families who have lost loved ones to alcohol or substance abuse.

Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Lunch takes place at 11:30 with a presentation afterward by Earnestine Hargett, disability rights advocate. Cost is $8. For reservations, call 330-746-0604.

Friendship Train 12-Step Support Group meets from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays at Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave. People who are trying to overcome any addiction are welcome and encouraged to attend. Those attending should enter through the church’s lower parking lot off Wardle.

NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support groups for those who deal with mental illness. Support groups meet as follows: Girard Family Support, first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St., and Austintown Family Support Group, 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court. NAMI Connection, a support group for people with a mental health diagnosis meets at the following locations: 1:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown; 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays at Alta Care in Austintown; and NAMI Connection for the dual diagnosed at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Nar-Anon, a 12-step program for relatives and friends affected by a loved one’s addiction to drugs, meets at 7 p.m. every Friday at Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road SE, Howland, and at 7 p.m. every Sunday upstairs at the Sahara Club, 2345 Youngstown Road SE, (Route 422) Warren. Portage County Chapter 600 of International Parents without Partners will host a dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Ritchie Memorial Shelter House pavilion, 109 West Ave., Tallmadge, to celebrate a country western theme. Menu includes sloppy joes, side dishes and dessert. Members and non members are $5 per person. PWP is a single parent support group, with one common point: members are all single parents, whether due to death, divorce, separation or having never been married. The chapters are mainly an educational and family support group, but are active in other endeavors. The members take time to have fun, not only with other adults, but also with their children. For information, call Warrine at 330-322-9559. The chapter will host its monthly dance from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Oct. 7 at the shelter house, 109 West Ave., Tallmadge. Music will be provided by disk jockey Mel. Monthly dances are open to the public, and nonmembers are invited to join the PWP members to celebrate a country western dance theme. Cost for members $6 and non members $8.

TOPS 327 is seeking new members who want to Take Off Pounds Sensibly. Meeting will take place Monday at Christ Church Presbyterian, 1933 Canfield Road, Boardman.
