Columbiana man pleads guilty to promoting prostitution

Staff report

A Columbiana man has pleaded guilty to two prostitution-related offenses in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court and will be sentenced in November.

Marcus Huffman, 32, of Country View Circle, pleaded guilty Tuesday to promoting prostitution and possession of criminal tools, charges that resulted from an April 3 arrest.

He faces up to 30 months in prison and $7,500 in fines. Judge R. Scott Krichbaum will sentence Huffman at 11 a.m. Nov. 8.

Prosecutors dropped a count of compelling prostitution because the alleged victim was uncooperative.

At the time of the arrest, Kelsie Scahill, 22, of Coitsville, told police Huffman was forcing her to engage in prostitution to pay for drugs and their room at a Market Street motel, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.

She further claimed Huffman assaulted her and threatened to tell her family about her drug abuse and prostitution, the television station reported.

Prosecutors said Scahill, who is in a relationship with Huffman, refused to cooperate with the investigation, so they couldn’t prove the allegations.

Scahill, who was charged with soliciting and possessing drug-abuse instruments and criminal tools, entered a plea of intervention in lieu of conviction in Mahoning County Area Court in Canfield in June. She has a probation-violation hearing later this week, however.
