Filmmakers prepare to shoot here
Shooting for the film “Them That Follow” is set to begin next month in the Youngstown area. Walton Goggins will star in the thriller as the leader of a snake-handling church in Appalachia who fights to protect his way of life.
The cast also includes Olivia Colman, Alice Englert and Thomas Mann, according to deadline.com. Directors are Brittany Poulton and Daniel Savage, who also wrote the script.
Goggins stars with Richard Gere and Peter Dinklage in “Three Christs,” which will premiere this week at the Toronto Film Festival.
Local vendors and contractors who can supply items such as rental cars and generators, as well as caterers, stylists, actors and crew can submit their information at filmyoungstown.com, according to Fred D’Amico of the Youngstown Film Commission.
In May, City Council approved a loan of up to $2 million for the film, which is being produced by G-Base and Amasia Entertainment. D’Amico said he could not discuss the film’s budget.
Another filmmaking team that was interested in Youngstown is no longer coming. Peter Dobson and Marc Clebanoff have settled on a different site for their film “Asbury Park,” said D’Amico.
