ServSafe food class
The Mahoning County District Board of Health is offering a two-day interactive ServSafe class for persons who work in the food service and retail food establishments.
As of March 1, the Level Two Certification is required by the Ohio Department of Health for licensed Risk Level III and Risk Level IV Food Service Operations and Retail Food Establishments.
The additional training requires one employee, who has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control food preparation and service, to maintain the Level Two Certification. The ODH will provide a certificate of completion upon passing the course.
Participants learn about preventing foodborne illness through safe cooking, cleaning, sanitizing, personal hygiene practices and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point principles, a systematic approach to the identification, evaluation, and control of food safety hazards .
The classes are at the Mahoning County District Board of Health, 50 Westchester Drive, Conference Room Suite 107 from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 2 and 3. The date for the two-hour test is Oct. 4. The cost is $160. Preregistration is required. Call 330-270-2855.
Health screening offered
Mercy Health lab personnel will perform prostate specific antigen blood draws and NEO Urology physicians will perform digital rectal examinations from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Grace AME Church, 1137 Main Ave. S.W., Warren.
The screenings for prostate cancer are free for men 40 and over; and other screenings are available. Free dinner will be provided to screening participants.

Free health seminar
“How to Eat and Live Right for Your Blood Type” seminar is offered at 6:30 p.m. Thursday by Dr.Ted Suzelis , who will discuss the scientific background behind the “Eat Right for Your Type” diet, and dietary and lifestyle guidelines for each of the blood types.
The free seminar is at the Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center, 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite D3, Southbridge West Complex.

The Rose Mary Flanagan Ovarian Cancer Foundation is offering a wellness event at 6 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Yellow Brick Place, 2959 Canfield Road, Suite 3, in recognition of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Kathy Padgett, nephrologist and practitioner of The Center for Lifestyle Change, will present “The Science Behind the Diet: Eating Healthy” program.
A graduate of the Dr. Weil Integrative Medicine Fellowship through the University of Arizona, Dr. Padgett is an outspoken advocate of the integration of traditional medicine with natural diet, nutrition and therapy.

Group hypnosis session
A group hypnosis session for weight loss and smoking cessation is offered at 6 p.m. Wednesday at The Yoga Center inside the Governors Insurance Building, 972 Youngstown-Kingsville Road (state Route 193).
