The 2017 Canfield High School boys and girls soccer teams were officially introduced to family and friends during the teams’ Meet the Team on Aug. 14.
Boys and girls Head Coach Phil Simone introduced the girls and boys varsity teams, while Assistant Coach Kyle Reese introduced the boys junior varsity team and girls junior varsity coach Sophia Mancini introduced the girls junior varsity team.
Simone welcomed everyone to the event.
“Welcome to the 2017 Meet the Team night. We’ve had a great pre-season, which started with Kids Camp and then the Cardinal Classic and Team Camp. Then we went to Strongsville and traveled to the Crew game. I know this pre-season has set the stage for a tremendous season this year,” Simone said.
Simone then introduced Canfield Soccer Boosters President Rob Accordino, who introduced the Canfield Soccer Boosters officers.
Accordino turned to program back over to Simone, who introduced Reese who then proceeded to recognize the boys junior varsity team.
“We are looking forward to what the JV team has to offer us in the future,” Simone said.
After introducing and welcoming Mancini, Simone then handed the podium over to her to introduce the members of the girls junior varsity team.
“Our girls JV team is pretty young. We are excited to see how they progress as the season goes along,” Simone said.
In introducing the boys varsity team, Simone said they are a veteran team.
“We have a veteran team here. We have been bumped up to Division 1 and we are ready to accept that challenge. We think we will do very well in Division 1,” Simone said.
After introducing the girls varsity team, Simone said they are ready to reclaim Division 2.
“The girls have been realigned and bumped to Division 2. After being gone for two years, we are ready to reclaim the district. This will be a phenomenal year for this team,” Simone said.
Simone then introduced and welcomed Amy Vinopal, the new girls assistant varsity coach.
In closing, Simone said he is blessed with the staff he works with.
“I am blessed to have the staff I have. It feels like a family. I am very proud to be the head of a staff like this,” Simone said.
Simone added one last thought about the team parents.
“Our program would not be such a success without our team parents. We are all a team here and it is up to us to make our kids’ high school careers the best memories and best years of their lives,” Simone said.
The Canfield High School Soccer Boosters hosted the evening for the teams and their families and friends in the high school cafeteria.
