Sophomore Mitchel Dunham took 11th overall out of 318 runners on Sept. 2 in a new career best time of 17:08 at The Frank Gibas Invitational at Kenston High School in Chagrin Falls.
The Spartans finished seventh overall and improved their varsity record to 26-10 for the 2017 season. The junior varsity squad placed second in the junior varsity race and is 20-1 so far this year.
Aiding in Boardman’s varsity score was senior Mark Moradian at 17:23, which was good enough for 17th overall. He was followed by senior Nick Lascola at a personal best time of 18:20, which earned the Spartan runner 39th place. Seniors Matt Moradian and Jason Fabian finished 54th and 70th overall, respectively, to round out the scoring for Boardman.
“We had good day today,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Kenston made a few course changes from last year and it was a bit more challenging, still our guys put up some great numbers against a very talented field.”
Setting new personal bests at Kenston were seniors Lascola, Matt Moradian at 18:36, Jason Fabian at 18:47 and David Bader at 20:05. Juniors setting new personal records were Andy Beichner at 18:59 and Payton Torres at 20:59. Sophomores setting a new career best were Dunham, Alan Cuevas at 20:42, Jackson Lipka at 19:44 and Zander Schobel at 22:13. Freshmen setting new personal bests were Anthony Marshall at 18:43, Frank Bero at 18:42, Caydin Newberry at 18:42, Cristian Ortiz at 19:48, Jason Lagese at 20:13, TaJuan Richards at 21:01, Johnny Gabriele at 21:15, Brandon Noel at 20:24, Michael Halchuck at 22:47, Sal Buonamici at 24:18 and Beau Gorby at 23:17.
