Selah Dessert Theatre Season kicks off with all-female comedy

Staff report

Selah Dessert Theatre will open its season next Thursday with the comedy “The Savannah Sipping Society.”

Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and “Golden Girls” television sitcom writer Jamie Wooten, the play features an all-female cast.

It looks in on a group of middle-aged Southern women who, after experiencing crises, are seeking to reclaim a loving life again. “It has a ‘Golden Girls’ meets ‘Designing Women’ kind of feel”, said Mary Ruth Lynn, the director. “These are everyday women who tackle real life situations with heart, spunk, laughter and each other.”

The cast includes Kris Harrington, Denise Sculli, Haggy Hageman, Brenda Zivith, (and Regina Reynolds in a cameo role). The ladies are charming and hilarious as they spend time on the veranda sipping drinks and meeting the challenges presented by their newly acquired life coach. In the process, friendships are forged and hope for the future is realized.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Sept. 14, 15, 16, 22 and 23. The theater is on the second floor of Selah Restaurant, 130 S. Bridge St.

Tickets are $17.50. An opening night package that includes dinner and the show is available for $35 (plus tax and gratuity). For reservations for this package or tickets to any performance, go to or call 1-800-838-3006.

Pre-show dining reservations are also available by calling the restaurant at 330-755-2759. The theater is accessible by stairs.
