“Community Connection” (Sunday at 6:30 a.m. on 21 WFMJ-TV and 11 a.m. on WBCB-TV): Mental illness, combined with opiate usage, has caused a crisis in the Valley, but there is help available. Hope Haney, executive director of the National Alliance for Mental Illness, Mahoning Valley, will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss these issues and the various free programs available in the community.

Next, Pastor Rafael Cruz and Cassandra Leavell of Teen Straight Talk will discuss the second free community forum on teen suicide in the Valley and encourage parents and teens to attend.

“A Conversation with Dee” (Sunday at 7:30 a.m. on WYTV-TV): Host Dee Crawford will talk with the organizers of Project Dawn and their upcoming training for overdose awareness and emergency treatment.

MVHS plans events to mark birthday

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will mark its 142nd birthday with a free open house Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.

The Young Leaders Advisory Board will conduct historical walking tours of the downtown area at 12:30 and 2 p.m. The event also will feature a local history fair with displays from the McKinley Memorial Library, Canfield Historical Society, the Niles Historical Society, Melnick Medical Museum, the Youngstown State University Archives and the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor.
