‘Shred event’ set for Saturday

WARREN

Shepherd of the Valley, 4100 N. River Road NE, will host a “shred event” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Participants are asked to gather and box up materials that they want to shred, bring up to five banker-sized boxes, and remove documents from binders and binder clips. Paperclips, staples, spiral notebooks and rubber bands are acceptable.

Plastic, cardboard, boxes, plastic bags, three-ring binders, vinyl, metal, media such as CDs, DVDs and VCR tapes will not be accepted. Volunteers will direct traffic and assist with unloading boxes. All materials will be shredded on site, and participants may stay to watch their materials being shredded. Free refreshments will be available.

ACTION meeting

YOUNGSTOWN

The Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing our Neighborhoods is sponsoring a public meeting about institutional racism at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave., from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

In addition, state Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan of Youngstown, D-58th, will discuss her bill to protect “land-contract homeowners” from out-of-state investors taking advantage of local residents.

Also, the candidates for mayor will discuss their commitment to bringing a full-service grocery store to the inner city. The Rev. Jack W. Pettis is the host pastor.

Eighth-Grade Day at Ursuline High

YOUNGSTOWN

Ursuline High School will host Eighth-Grade Day from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Nov. 14 for all eighth-graders.

Students will be invited to learn about Ursuline High School’s academic, extracurricular and spiritual offerings.

Students will view a dissection in the Distance Learning Lab with the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, participate in foreign language immersion, join a selfie scavenger hunt as they tour the school and more. There is no cost to attend. Lunch is provided; dress is casual.
