History lecture on Warren band leader

YOUNGSTOWN

Janne Hurrelbrink-Bias, author of “Squire’s Warren Junior Military Band,” will be the speaker at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s next Bites and Bits of History lunch program Thursday at noon at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.

Her program is titled “From Amadeus to Zhivago and Everything in Between: A History of Music in the Mahoning Valley.”

Her book focuses on Donald W. “Squire” Hurrelbrink, who dedicated more than 66 years to the youths of the area. The book will be available to purchase at the event.

Guests can bring a lunch, or visit Overture restaurant for its $6 lunch special. Call Overture at 330-744-9900 to place an order. Coffee, pop, and water are available for purchase at the History Center.

The daily parking lot on the west side of the building is available for $2.50. For information, call 330-743-2589.

Upcoming speakers are:

Nov. 16: “Finding Mary Wick,” by Lillian Reynolds Reeher, author of “Her Name was Mary Wick.”

Dec. 21: “The Mahoning Valley’s Contributions to World War I,” by Cassie Nespor, Melnick Medical Museum and YSU Archives. He will highlight the local doctors and nurses who volunteered to serve near the front lines in France.
