BOYS GOLF

Division I District Tournament

HINKLEY

Boardman’s boys golf team qualified for the state tournament in Columbus, finishing third in team play with a score of 306. Cole Christman shot a team-best 72 to take third in individual play. The junior was two strokes behind medalist Andrew Kaye of Cleveland St. Ignatius. Cade Kreps shot 75, Bryan Kordupel shot 78 and Bryan Terlesky and Bobby Jonda shot 81 and 83, respectively. Howland’s Joey Vitali finsished tied for 59th place, shooting 83.

BOYS SOCCER

Maplewood 8, Newbury 4

NEWBURY

Tommy Rink led the Rockets (15-1) with seven goals and Tyler Black had one. Mathew Palm, Thomas Dorsey, Logan Moser and Fernando Matos all had an assist. Phil Smith made four saves as keeper. Stats for Newbury were not provided.

Lakeview 10, Edgewood 0

CORTLAND

Noah Busefink scored five goals for the Bulldogs (15-1). Also scoring were Jeff Remmick, Anthony Sylvester, Vinnie Rienzi, Jacob Drotar and Justin Grove. Sylvester made three assists and Michael Augustine two. Brendan White and Rienzi also made an assist while goalkeeper Jeff Remmick made one save.

HUBBARD

Marlei Coen-Young scored the goal assisted by Alayna Fell. Emma Gumont had 16 saves for Champion and Alexis Cobin made 10 for Hubbard.

Springfield 12, Columbiana 0

NEW MIDDLETOWN

The Tigers (14-2) set a school record with nine shutouts. Kylee Kosek scored three goals and two assists while Cierra Latronica scored three goals and an assist. Kate Denmeade added two goals while Lexi Million and Haley LaMorticella each had a goal and an assist. Jenna Hatton and Sam Smith each scored a goal. Courtney Hughes made four assists while Hayley Socha had an assist. For the Clippers, Molly Witmer made saves and Bridget Szabo made five saves

Poland 2, Newton Falls 1

POLAND

Maggie Sebest and Brie Stackpole each had a goal for Poland (9-4-3). Rebekah Thomas and Kat Partika both had an assist. Tara Backherms scored the goal for Newton Falls.

Grand Valley 2, Pymatuning Valley 0

ANDOVER

Ella Crum had one goal and one assist for Grand Valley (15-0-1) and Jesse Crouch scored the other assisted by Rachael Taylor. Izzi Scarberry made one save and Pymatuning Valley’s (9-6-1) Haleigh Pavlovski made six saves. This is Grand Valley’s first ever undefeated season in school soccer history.

VOLLEYBALL

Cardinal Mooney 25-25-25, Newton Falls 19-13-19

YOUNGSTOWN

Autumn DeSantis and Courtney Koken each had 12 kills and 21 digs to lead Mooney. Maria Pelini dished 26 assists and Bella Stanko scored 22 points and had 14 digs. Izzy Kline had 11 kills and four blocks for Newton Falls. Elizabeth Boone had 12 assists and 11 digs.

BROOKFIELD

Melina Manning had 11 kills and 34 digs for Liberty and Erica Carnes dished 23 assists. No stats were reported for Brookfield.

CORTLAND

For the Tigers, Faith Grant had 26 kills and two blocks, Danni Harigan had 13 service points and four aces and Kate Summerfield had 38 assists. Lakeview’s Lexi Inman had four aces and 30 assists, Hayley Lytle had 15 kills and 26 digs and Leigha Carlson had eight blocks.

KINSMAN

Maggie Dunlap had 12 kills, three aces and 11 points for the Flashes. Morgan Tenney added five aces, 15 points, seven kills and 17 digs and Savanah Dodrill had 31 assists, 10 points and eight digs. Stats for Badger were not provided.

LOWELLVILLE

Camryn Jarrett had 19 kills, two blocks, three aces, three digs, and three aces to lead United (16-5) and Cameron Pierson had 25 assists and 20 service points.

Tiana Drake had 10 kills for LaBrae. Chelsea Marsh made 23 digs and Arianna Geordan dished 27 assists.
