Williamson College of Business Administration honors alumni

Recipients of 2017 WCBA Outstanding Alumni Awards are Robert DiRusso, owner and president of DiRusso’s Sausage Inc., outstanding business alumnus; Mitchell Joseph, founder and CEO of Joseph Company International Inc., business achievement award; Patricia Mishic, chief commercial officer of CoorsTek Inc., outstanding business alumna; and Ashley Basile Oeken, president of Engage! Cleveland, for outstanding recent alumna.
DiRusso also is owner and operator of DiRusso’s Concessions LLC, which operates sausage concession trailers and manufactures DiRusso’s Real Italian Sausage.
He grew up in Canfield and, after graduating from YSU with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, expanded his concession business and developed and operated DiRusso’s Restaurant in Canfield.
Joseph’s development of the self-chilling can has led to a “Rookie of the Year” award presented by the U.S. Army for self-chilling canteens developed for soldiers in desert warfare and was recognized by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency for the redesign of the Chill Can.
He signed a licensing agreement with the Pepsi Cola Co. and created the blue Pepsi can; created technology in conjunction with NASA that allows for astronauts to have cold desserts in space; signed a licensing agreement with Heineken and created the barrel can; and sold pressurization technology to Heineken that allows them to have the only five-liter keg on the market without a carbon dioxide cartridge.
Mishic oversees a team that serves customers in 70 countries across a wide range of markets including aerospace, defense, semi-conductor, energy and automotive.
Her focus is on delivering sustainable, profitable growth through strategic marketing and sales solutions.
Oeken oversees all aspects of the nonprofit Engage! Cleveland organization, while driving strategic initiatives to increase its impact on the business and civic communities. She consults with employers, nonprofit organizations and city agencies to attract, engage and retain the best and brightest talent. She also is active in Cleveland’s civic community serving on a variety of committees and boards including the board of trustees at the St. Luke Foundation.
