3 Mahoning Valley football teams are in Top 10

The Canfield, Poland and South Range football teams are in the Top 10 of their regions in this week’s Associated Press poll of state schools.

Canfield (6-0) is ranked third in the state in Division III. The Cardinals received four first-place votes form the media outlets participating in the poll. Friday, Canfield will host winless Niles.

In Div. IV, Poland (6-0) is ranked sixth and received one first-place vote. The Bulldogs will play East (1-5) on Friday at Youngstown’s Rayen Stadium.

South Range (6-0) is the third-ranked team in Division V. The Raiders received two first-place votes. Friday, the Raiders will welcome Sharon to their new football stadium. It’s the first time these two will play each other. The Tigers are 4-2.

Girard, the Mahoning Valley’s other unbeaten team, just missed the Top 10 in Div. IV. The Indians are 11th. Cardinal Mooney (3-3) is 15th.

In Div. VII, Warren JFK (3-3), the defending state champions, is 13th and Lisbon (5-1) is 14th.
