Woman dies after shots are fired into home

Police say a woman was killed while sitting in the living room of a Cleveland home after multiple gunshots were fired from outside the residence.

A Cleveland police spokeswoman said Sunday the 43-year-old woman was pronounced dead after officers were called to the home Saturday night. The woman, who hasn’t been identified, was shot in the head.

It’s not clear whether the residence was the intended target of the gunfire.

There have been no arrests.

Divers find man’s body

Authorities say divers have found the body of a man who went over a cliff and into a river while running from police outside of Cleveland.

Rocky River police said Sunday that the man’s body was found near a spot in the river where he’d been spotted Saturday night by fishermen at a marina.

Police say the man had pending arrest warrants and fled an officer who saw him sitting in a car outside an apartment building. Police say the man went under a fence at the edge of a cliff leading to the Rocky River below. Police haven’t released the man’s name.

Doctors urged to screen for prediabetes

Medical groups are urging Ohio doctors to screen more people for prediabetes and to refer people at risk for Type-2 diabetes to programs that lead to healthier lifestyles.

The Dispatch reports the Ohio State Medical Association is teaming up with the American Medical Association to conduct screenings and identify people who have high blood-sugar levels that aren’t at the stage where diabetes is diagnosed.

The American Medical Association says only about 10 percent of people with prediabetes are aware they have it. The AMA is reaching out to physicians about the need to screen patients.

Risk factors for prediabetes and diabetes include excess weight, lack of exercise, high blood pressure and a family history of diabetes.
