Gus Ragland threw three touchdown passes, Kenny Young had a combined 198 yards rushing and receiving, and Miami (Ohio) kept Akron from becoming bowl eligible with a 24-14 victory on Tuesday night.

Ragland was 19-of-32 passing for 244 yards and two interceptions.

It was the first time the RedHawks (4-6, 2-3 Mid-American Conference) won a game in which Ragland threw an interception. He was 8-0 in games without a pick and 0-5 with a pick.

Ragland hit Sam Martin for a 19-yard score in the first quarter to tie the game at 7.

Young turned a short pass into a 30-yard score, his first-ever TD reception, in the third quarter before James Gardner’s 19-yard reception made it 24-7 entering the fourth.

Young finished with nine catches for 98 yards, both career highs, and rushed 14 times for 100.

Nelson Kato opened the scoring with a 7-yard run and found Tra’Von Chapman for a 30-yard TD for the Zips (5-5, 4-2).
