Jeramy DeBord began brewing more than 20 years ago. He’d do schoolwork during the day. At night, he’d dabble with experimental brews.
Last January, Jeramy’s dream came true when Numbers Brewing Co. opened. Jeramy is co-owner with Brock Beatty.
“Beer is one of the three best things on the planet,” Jeramy said. “I started brewing as a hobby, using a Mr. Beer kit. I’d bring beer to parties and gatherings. My friends and family became my focus groups.”
This feedback helped develop the base of beers that launched the brewery. Each beer has a corresponding number, and there’s meaning behind the brewery’s name and the beers’ numbers.
Numbers relates to Jeramy’s days at Bethany College in West Virginia. He and Brock joined the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Each new member is provided a roll number, a source of seniority.

“Numbers reminds us of time we spent at that small college, in that fraternity, with that brotherhood, and how it helped shape our futures,” Jeramy said. “We believe everyone can relate to, or has some connection to, numbers.”
1450 Pale Ale is named in honor of Jeramy’s Beta Theta Pi roll number.
“When we opened, we had eight core beers on tap,” Jeramy said. “Those beers are still in our lineup. Plus, with our 2.5-barrel brewing system, we can get creative.”
As of the Flight Crew’s visit, Numbers had introduced 22 beers to date. Thirteen Numbers beers are always on tap, and two new beers — a ruby red grapefruit session IPA and a blood orange ale — are in the works.
Numbers also features a full bar and typically carries two or three of Jeramy’s favorite brands, such as Rhinegeist.
The Flight Crew sampled each Numbers beer on tap, including: The 330 Blonde Ale, 8 Witbier, 1450 Pale Ale, Rational Session IPA, Psi IPA, Prime Imperial IPA, 12 Church St. Porter, 414 Milk Stout, 304 Honey Wheat, Zero Hour Black IPA, 44 Pale Ale, 80-Degree Summertime Ale and 2H Hoppy Honey Wheat.
The #1 seller is The 330 Blonde Ale, followed by 8 Witbier and 12 Church Street Porter.
Here’s the sum of what Flight Crew members had to say about their favorites:
Psi IPA (6.7% ABV, 70 IBU)
Jason Jugenheimer — “The Greek letter Psi has many meanings in history. One even equates to water potential. While that meaning deals with energy, the water used in Psi IPA has definitely reached its potential. This American-style IPA is the perfect balance of malts and West Coast hops. Its dark caramel pour and hop aroma are a nice teaser for your palate and please every level of hoppy IPA drinker.”
Zero Hour Black IPA (7.0% ABV, 90 IBU)
Jim Cyphert — “I was impressed from my first sip. This one’s brewed with the profile of a porter, and then multiple hop profiles are added to bring sharpness (five different hops). I enjoy a darker, smooth beer with a robust hop finish. Zero Hour delivered. This beer has a military connotation. At Numbers, the first beer for military veterans is on the house. How awesome is that?”
Prime Imperial IPA (8.5% ABV, 89 IBU)
Dave Shively — “The Prime Imperial IPA, by its very name, suggests that it’s an ale fit for a king. That just might explain why I enjoyed this one so much. This beer was a deep, dark amber, and is a close cousin to the brewery’s signature IPA, the Psi IPA. By adding two additional hop profiles to the Psi IPA, for a total of six different hops, the brew master ended up with a ‘prime-time’ IPA, which is both smooth and easy to drink.”
414 Milk Stout (5.8% ABV, 39 IBU)
Joe Sanfilippo — “After being introduced to 13 very tasty adult beverages by Jeramy and the gang at Numbers, the one I enjoyed the most was the 414 Milk Stout. An American-style stout with an ABV of 5.8 percent and IBU of 39, this dark beer is chocolate in color and has a nice malty taste with a delicious chocolate finish.”
1450 Pale Ale (5.4% ABV, 38 IBU)
David Anderson — “This was my first trip to Lisbon and my first trip to Numbers. I wasn’t disappointed. I enjoyed all of the beers. The 1450 Pale Ale was one that stood out. It was crisp and easy to drink. There were some very bold flavors from the combination of the Citra and Fuggle hops. I liked this one so much, I grabbed some of the free popcorn Numbers provides, and ordered another!”
12 Church St. Porter (6.0% ABV, 34 IBU)
Roger Gillespie — “The challenge of the evening was deciding which sample to try first. My choice was the one with the dark chocolate color. 12 Church St. Porter is brewed with chocolate and caramel malts, flaked oats and vanilla beans. It also boasts Mount Hood and Northern Brewer hops. With an ABV of 6 percent and a subtle IBU of 34, this is an outstanding brew. It is brewed year-round, so come in today and treat yourself.”
Our recommendation is to get down to Lisbon. You just might find your lucky number and learn what the other two “best things on the planet” are from Jeramy.
