Back-pain workshop

CANFIELD

The Center for Physical Health, 4137 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite 104, is offering a workshop, “Managing Back Pain and Sciatica,” at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The class, led by Marybeth Romeo, a licensed physical therapist and owner of Center for Physical Health, is free to the community.

Diabetes education

YOUNGSTOWN

Mercy Health – Youngstown is offering free “Diabetes Self-Management Education” classes from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today -Thursday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital and May 23-25 at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The sessions, taught by registered nurse diabetes and registered dietitian nutritionist diabetes educators, include topics such as what diabetes is, diabetes medicines, monitoring blood glucose, and the benefits of exercise, diet and customized meal planning. A doctor referral is required to enroll. Call 330-480-2665 for help getting a referral and to register.

Nutrition program

WARREN

Mercy Health - Youngstown is offering a free program at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, 667 Eastland Ave., Warren, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. May 23, teaching participants how to take charge of their well-being by taking charge of what they eat.

Led by a registered dietitian, the session features information and discussion about “Eating Mindfulness.” Parking is free. To register, call 330-480-3070.

Health solutions

BOARDMAN

Mercy Health - Youngstown is offering two “Health at Home” workshops from 11 a.m. to noon and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, based on the book “Health at Home: Your Complete Guide to Symptoms, Solutions & Self Care,” at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

The book provides instructions for handling more than 200 common health problems, including self-care, prevention and determining when it’s time to seek immediate medical care. To register, call 330-480-3070.

Hospital volunteer training offered

SALEM

Mercy Health - Youngstown is offering a series of five volunteer classes to train hospital volunteers from 10:30 to 2:30 p.m. at 2388 Southeast Blvd., Salem, on Fridays beginning Friday and ending June 16. For information and to register, call 330-480-3375.
