Latino Food Festival returns to OCCHA hall

The sixth annual International Latino Food Festival of the OCCHA (Hispanic American Civic and Cultural Organization) will take place May 20 from noon to 7 p.m. at the OCCHA Social Hall, 3660 Shirley Road.

Admission and parking are free. Foods will be sold as combo meals or a la carte items. For information, call 330-781-1808.

The menu will include pernil asado (pork roast), Fricase de pollo (chicken in sauce), arroz con pollo verde (rice with chicken in a cilantro based sauce), Ceviche (fish marinated in lime juice), congri (rice with black beans), picadillo (meat hash), pastelon (plaintain meat casserole), arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), and tacos al vapor (meat and vegetarian tacos).

Attendees can also sample pastelillos (fried turnovers), tostones (fried plantains), empanadas (baked turnovers), tamales (corn- based shell filled with meat or cheese), quinoa salad, papa a la huancaina (potatoes in a yellow cheese sauce) and more.

Desserts are flan (caramel custard), mousse de maracuya (passion fruit mousse), tres leches (three milks cake), pastelillos de guayaba (guava filled pastries) and more.

Countries represented will be Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and others. Traditional dances, musical performances and a DJ throughout the day, a pinata, children’s acitivities and a raffle will also be featured.
