The Boardman boys track team improved its 2017 record to 9-1 and 5-1 in the AAC after finishing second at a tri-meet at Spartan Stadium on April 25.
Fitch was first with 95 points, followed by the Spartans with 69 and then Canfield with 11.
The Spartans opened the meet with a second place finish in the 4x800 relay with the team of by sophomore Trevor Boggess, freshman Mitchel Dunham, sophomore Payton Torres and senior Nathaniel Ams. The next event, the 110-meter hurdles, freshman Brian Yauger placed fourth. In the 100-meter dash, Spartan junior JaJuan Forte placed third.
In the 1600-meter run, senior Chris Butler placed first and senior Nick Digiacomo was fourth. Boggess finished first in the 400-meter run with senior Koby Adu-Poku in second and sophomore Josh Rodriguez in third. Sophomore Eri Ojewale placed second in the 300 hurdles and Digiacomo was fourth in the 800-meter run. The 200-meter dash saw Forte finish third and Jama fourth. The next event was the 3200-meter run which was won by Butler with Dunham in second. The 4x400 meter relay team of Rodriguez, Boggess, Ojewale, and Torres placed first.
“We really had some great performances today, especially in jumps,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Fitch is still an excellent team, but we are pretty solid too.”
In the field events, senior Jason Clinkscale placed first, with junior Justice Jama in second and senior Don Lewis fourth. Jama was second in the high jump with senior Richard Fisher placing fourth. Fisher took first in the pole vault with Lewis in third. Senior George Wallace placed second in the shot put and third in the discus with junior Steven Amstutz taking third in the shot put.
