Spartans place second in county championship meet

The Boardman Spartans finished Mahoning County Runners-Up following the championship meet on April 22 at Austintown Fitch High School.

The Spartans opened the meet by placing second in the 4x800 with the team of sophomore Payton Torres, senior Nathaniel Ams, senior Nick Digiacomo and senior Dom Eorio. Junior JaJuan Forte was third and senior Jason Clinkscale eighth in the 100-meter dash. Forte was also fourth overall with sophomore Billy Cammack fifth in the 200-meter dash. In the 400-meter dash, senior Koby Adu-Poku placed third overall. Senior Chris Butler placed first in the 800-meter run with Torres taking seventh. Butler was also county champion in the 1600 with freshman Mitchel Dunham taking fifth place. Dunham was third overall in the 3200 with Digiacomo right behind him for fourth.

Junior John Fleet was third in the 110 hurdles with freshman Brian Yauger in eighth. Sophomore Eri Ojewale was third in the 300 hurdles with Fleet in fifth place. The Spartan 4x100 relay team of Clinkscale, Forte, senior Sheldon Broyles and junior Ethan Himes finished second. The 4x200 relay team of Adu-Poku. Broyles, Cammack and Forte was also second overall. The Spartan 4x400 relay team of Fleet, Butler, Ojewale and Adu-Poku was second as well.

The field events saw junior Justice Jama place third in the high jump with senior Richard Fisher taking fifth. Clinkscale was second in the long jump with Jama in sixth. Fisher was first overall in the pole vault. Senior George Wallace was second in the shot put with junior Steven Amstutz in third. Wallace was county champ in the discus with Amstutz taking seventh.
