Students at Canfield High School wrapped up Spirit Week with a pep rally in the gymnasium on Feb. 16. The students showed their Cardinal Pride throughout the week with class themes, including Ghosts of Poland’s Past for the freshman class, Freeze Out the Dogs for the sophomores, Jacked Juniors for the juniors and Last of the 90s for the seniors.
Each day of the week also had a theme, with Monday being Class Color Day during which students were asked to wear their class’ designated color, Tuesday was We Love Our Cards Day, during which students could wear a red T-shirt with a heart on it, Wednesday students were asked to dress to represent their class theme and Thursday was red and black day.
The entire week was a competition between classes to see which had the most school spirit, with the results announced at the pep rally.
Jeremy Hamilton, the voice of the Canfield Cardinals basketball team, welcomed the students to the pep rally and began the rally by introducing senior members of the school’s winter sports teams. Seniors from the boys basketball team, cheerleaders, girls and boys swim teams, girls basketball team, wrestling, hockey and boys bowling were introduced to the cheering crowd.
Each class was tasked with coming up with a game to play at the pep rally, with the freshman class having members of each class play Mummy Dance and the sophomore class having members of each class playing Snowball Dodge Ball. The junior class had members of each class participate in a relay race and the senior class had members of each class play Musical Chairs with a 90s twist.
In between games, the Canfield High School cheerleaders entertained the crowd and got them pumped up for the Canfield versus Poland basketball game scheduled for Friday night.
Big Red, the Canfield High School mascot, got the students pumped up by leading a victory cheer for each class, giving the students a chance to out-cheer their peers.
Throughout the pep rally, Hamilton kept the students updated on the spirit competition scores between the classes, and proclaimed the seniors the winner of the competition at the end of the rally.
“The seniors win the spirit competition with 31 points,” Hamilton announced. “Also, please take some time to thank you class advisors today. This pep rally would not be possible without them. We also thank the administration for their support.”
To close the pep rally, Hamilton led the students in singing the school’s Alma Mater.
