“Dracula” is an adaptation, by Steven Dietz, from the novel by Bram Stoker. It retains all the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker’s classic novel and is based on the classic legend of the Transylvanian vampire, Dracula. The lead characters work to piece together Dracula’s identity as they make a valiant attempt to stop him from taking new victims. Rich with both humor and horror, this play paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker’s famous vampire.

The tale begins with Jonathan Harker (Michael Stefanick), who is an English solicitor, visiting Count Dracula (Gregory Halley) to provide legal support for a real estate transaction. Harker soon realizes that he is Dracula’s prisoner. Soon Dracula is shown to be stalking Lucy Westenra (Emily Hofsess). As time passes she begins to suffer from episodes of sleepwalking, as witnessed by her friend Mina Murray (Lauren Johnson), the fianc e of Harker. Lucy receives three marriage proposals, one from Dr. John Seward (Ben Lawson), who is treating an insane man, Renfield (Alex Kluchar), who wishes to consume insects, spiders, birds and rats to absorb their “life force”, and who is able to detect Dracula’s presence, thus supplying clues.

When Lucy begins to waste away suspiciously, Seward consults his old teacher, Abraham Van Helsing (Mitchell Halley), who immediately determines the true cause of Lucy’s condition. After Dracula learns of the plot against him, he attacks Mina and feeds Mina his own blood to control her. This curses Mina with vampirism. The protagonists pursue Dracula and kill him.

Rounding out the cast are Vincent Prologo, Joey Bruno, Allyson Cooper, Taryn Rothbauer, Stephanie Scheckelhoff, Kaitlyn Burrows and Alanna Holden. Stage Managers are Grace Schuler, Rachel Daloise and Giannah Marasovich.

Dracula is staged under the direction of Regina Olszewski Reynolds, assisted by Marlene Menaldi Strollo.
