A Youngstown man faces multiple charges after fighting with township police.

Frank Bond, 23, is being held in Mahoning County jail on charges of assault, possession of drugs cocaine, illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse, tampering with evidence, drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and improperly handling fireams in a motor vehicle. All but the paraphernalia and firearm charges are felonies.

A patrolman approached a car parked more than 12 inches from the curb on Lexington Place on Friday morning when he smelled marijuana, according to a police report. The patrolman said he found suspected marijuana in the car and a loaded 9 mm handgun in the glove box, which belonged to Bond. Three other people also were in the car.

Bond told officers he had additional contraband down his pants. After being transported to the Austintown Police Department, he denied having contraband and refused to consent to a search. The report says Bond pushed and wrestled with officers, knocking one over. Police subdued Bond by kneeing and punching him. Bond said he was not injured, according to the report.

He was subsequently transported to the jail where concealed in his pants they found bags containing suspected marijuana and cocaine and a measuring container with cocaine residue. Bond is being held on $30,750 bond and will appear in Mahoning County Area Court on Monday.
