Man faces drug, gun charges after attempt to flee police

YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said a man being chased on foot by police Sunday on the North Side had a gun fall out of his clothes after he smashed into the door of a 1704 Logan Ave. gas station.

Reports said officer Anthony Trimble tried to pull over a car about 4 p.m. driven by Dominick Smith, 26, of West Myrtle Avenue, because he is wanted on several warrants.

Reports said Smith drove to the store, got out of his car and tried to to go in, slamming into the door and having a 9mm handgun fall onto the ground. Smith ran into the store, slamming into several shelves and knocking things over as Trimble followed him in.

Smith then gave himself up and was taken into custody without incident, reports said.

Trimble searched the area where Smith gave himself up and on a shelf behind a bag of chips Trimble found a bag that 30 bags of marijuana inside and 26 pills.

Smith is expected to be arraigned in municipal court today on drug and weapons charges.
