Students at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center received the all Army experience when Army Adventure Semi AS1 spent the day at the school on May 2. Students who attend MCCTC and Valley STEM Academy had access to its simulation system.

Throughout this AS1 semi, students shared in varying Army experiences by flying an Apache helicopter with APACHE, experiencing a jump with the Golden Knights with the Oculus Rift or becoming immersed into the world of virtual reality through the “IMMERSA-DOME” experience.

The semi has two Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Systems, a M4 Laser-Shot Simulator, the Apache Flight Simulator and the EOD Interactive Robotic Arm Simulator. It is also equipped with two touch-screen computers complete with career navigation capabilities, static displays and Army leadership, educational and career opportunities videos.

According to Sergeant Dowdell, the semi travels all over the country, visiting schools.

“We take this semi all over the country to show students what the Army is all about and what’s available to them. We have lots of equipment that we use in there for the kids to check out. We also have several service members students can talk to and ask questions,” Sergeant Dowdell said.
