Rust Belt to present new musical

Staff report

Rust Belt Theater Company will present the premiere of “Miss Tuesday Night,” the newest musical by Robert Dennick Joki and Josh Taylor, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and also June 16, 17, 23 and 24, at Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown.

“Miss Tuesday Night” takes a hilarious behind-the-scenes look at the outlandish culture surrounding small-town gay bar drag pageantry. Contestants, stage mothers and “drag hags” abound in this new interactive musical that follows the structure of a traditional drag queen pageant from beginning to end.

“Audience members will be given the chance to participate in the performance each night,” said Joki, who is also the director. “Three volunteers will be chosen to ‘compete’ in the pageant each night alongside the actors.”

The cast consists of Kage Coven, Nicole Zayas, Celena Coven, Heather Powell, Ryan Musgrove, Mary James, James Hain, Amanda Rudnytsky, Marisa Zamary, Brooke Nobbs, Jude Mikulich, Hunter James, Lynn Sabeh, Josh Fleming and Joki.

Tickets are $15 ($10 for students and seniors). There will be a reception after the opening night performance. For reservations, call 330-507-2358.
