Warren Junior Women’s League named top junior club in Ohio
GFWC Ohio Warren Junior Women’s League wrapped up its 2016-17 club year with membership and club award presentations at The Marketplace in Niles.
President Julie Vugrinovich congratulated the club members on the awards won at the GFWC Ohio convention. Among the awards was the announcement that GFWC WJWL was the top junior club in the state of Ohio. Treasurer Stephanie Furano received the GFWC Ohio Pioneer Workers Appreciation Award for her service.
First vice president and membership chairwoman Linda McCready presented the 2017 WJWL clubwoman of the year award to Carmella ‘Kitty’ Neilson, for her work on amblyopia. For more than 20 years, she has promoted the welfare of young children by forming her ‘army of volunteers’ who assist in screening young children for visual problems at under-served schools throughout the county.
Neilson also prepares a monthly informative reminder of a variety of cancers and their symptoms, educating the club and collecting funds to continue to support Relay for Life.
McCready presented 25-year volunteer certificates to Vugrinovich and Neilson. Ohio Assistant Director of Junior Clubs, Esther Dennis Gartland and Northeast District Junior Director Pam Vines presented McCready with a 10-year membership certificate.
