Austintown trustees award lower bid contract than 2016 on road resurfacingTweet
Township trustees awarded a contract for road resurfacing to a Pennsylvania company.
The township awarded the pact Monday night to Butch & McCree Paving of Hillsville, Pa., for $563,731. That sum also includes nonroadway asphalt.
Trustees did not say when the work would begin and what roads will be resurfaced.
Trustee Jim Davis also mentioned at the meeting that Austintown’s Fourth of July celebration this year was the biggest the township ever had in terms of attendance and parade participation.
“It was like all 38,000 people living in Austintown, plus half of Canfield and half of Youngstown was at the parade,” Davis said. He said more than 10,000 people attended the after-parade party in the Austintown Plaza.
Cash prizes were awarded to parade floats voted best in these categories – best noncommercial float, Idora Park Experience; best commercial float, to County Gypsy; and the best overall float, Motor Mafia Motorsports.
A total $854 of donated money from the parade was given to the Austintown Fitch Robotics team.
Trustees also renewed a yearly property lease agreement with the Mahoning County Solid Waste Management District for $15,000. This was done for township lease of recycling bins.
