Valley theater veteran to discuss his career
Veteran Mahoning Valley musical theater performer James McClellan will be the next speaker in the Memories of a Lifetime series, which will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. in the meeting room at Kravitz’s Deli, 3135 Belmont Ave.
The series is sponsored by the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society. Admission is $5. The event will include live music by Delores DePietro, and reservations are suggested; call Richard S. Scarsella, society chairman, at 330-726-8277.
McClellan is the operations manager of the Youngstown Playhouse. He has spent most of his life performing on area stages, including shows with Easy Street Productions, Oakland Center for the Arts, Ballet Western Reserve, the Youngstown Playhouse and Youngstown State University Theater.
Some of the notable shows in which he has appeared include “The Elephant Man,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “I Am My Own Wife” and “The Normal Heart.”
He studied voice at YSU, singing with the Dana School of Music’s Chorale and Madrigals, and has accompanied the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. McClellan began making musical appearances at the Fairmont Hotel in Pittsburgh in 2013, and his semi-annual engagements with siblings Eric and Janeen have attracted capacity crowds across Ohio.
McClelland also has performed with Youngstown native Liz Rubino in cabaret shows at the Metropolitan Room in New York and also at Cain Park in Cleveland.
