Legal Aid event
Community Legal Aid is seeking sponsors for its annual fundraiser and anniversary celebration, which will be in September in Akron.
The event, which honors volunteer attorneys, staff members and community partners, will feature a welcome address from Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor and also will honor Akron Children’s Hospital.
Legal Aid is offering several opportunities for businesses and organizations to get involved as sponsors. Each level comes with a number of tickets to the event and promotional advantages. The levels are supporter, $250; counselor, $500; advocate, $1,000; defender, $2,500; and champion, $5,000.

Application forms for Valley Christian School’s 2017-18 free and reduced-price meals for students unable to pay the full price of meals are being distributed to all homes in a letter to parents or guardians. Families with children eligible for school meals may be eligible for free health care coverage. These programs include coverage for doctor visits, immunizations, physicals, prescriptions, dental, vision, mental health, substance abuse and more. The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission will be removing flags at Calvary Cemetery on Saturday. They will also be disposing of any flags not suitable for proper display. The public is encouraged to attend and asked to bring any flags that are unfit for display to be burned.

The Valley Legacy Awards, which recognize outstanding seniors and senior advocates from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, is accepting nominations for honorees for the 2017 Awards. Nominations must be postmarked by July 17. Nominees and recipients will be honored at the 12th annual awards luncheon Oct. 4. Nomination forms are available at www.ShepherdoftheValley.com.
