Witness in murder trial refuses to testify
A defense witness in the Michael Paige murder trial in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court is refusing to testify.
Jasmine Fletcher exercised her Fifth Amendment right to avoid self incrimination because she has pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence in the case but has yet to he sentenced.
Paige is accused of killing Munir Blake, 31, on March 1, 2012. Police said Blake was arguing with Fletcher because she was stealing electricity from Blake.
Judge Maureen Sweeney refused to allow a request by Paige's attorney to force Fletcher to testify because of a U.S. Supreme Court case that says a defendant awaiting sentencing does have the right to invoke their fifth amendment privilege.
