Man arraigned for second domestic violence charge within a year

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who prosecutors say was convicted of domestic violence last January was arraigned Monday in municipal on a felony domestic violence charge against the same victim.

John Lenart, 41, of North Hazelwood Avenue, was given a bond of $15,000 by Judge Elizabeth Kobly during his arraignment.

Reports said police were called to Lenart’s home about 12:50 a.m. Sunday for unknown trouble and found a woman barefoot in the street wearing only a nightgown in frigid weather. She was bleeding from cuts to her head and face.

Reports said the woman told police that she was arguing with Lenart when Lenart began punching her, then he tried to put his arms around her neck and tried choking her and threatened to kill her.

She managed to get outside and was screaming for help, which prompted several neighbors to call 911, reports said.

Reports said Lenart told police she slapped him and that she fell down a flight of stairs.

Assistant City Prosecutor Jeffrey Moliterno told the judge that Lenart was convicted of domestic violence last January in Trumbull County against the same victim.
