ODNR releases third quarter shale production
During the third quarter of 2017, Ohio’s horizontal shale wells produced 4.1 million barrels of oil and 460 billion cubic feet of natural gas, according to the figures released by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Oil production was up 2.96 percent over last year’s third quarter and gas production was up 27.51 percent over last year.
The Vindicator calculated local production for the third quarter of 2017 and 2016 for comparison.
In Mahoning County, production went down.
The county’s wells produced 3,555 barrels of oil this third quarter compared with 4,216 during the third quarter of 2016.
Gas production was 523.5 million cubic feet compared with 678 million cubic feet produced during the third quarter of 2016.
In Trumbull County, year-over-year production also went down.
The county’s wells produced 656 barrels of oil, down from last third quarter’s production of 1,188 barrels. Gas production was 81.6 million cubic feet, down from 84 million cubic feet produced last year.
In Columbiana County, where most of the Mahoning Valley’s wells are located, oil production went down and gas went up.
Total oil production was 12,805 barrels during the third quarter of 2017 compared with 18,664 barrels produced during the third quarter of 2016.
Gas production for the third quarter was 8.8 billion cubic feet, up from last year’s 8.3 billion cubic feet.
