Join a gift wrapping fundraiser with the friends of the library
On Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., the Friends and Junior Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be gift wrapping at Barnes & Noble in Boardman. Tips from this fundraising event go to the Friends of PLYMC for children and teen programs. Come out and support the Friends. If you make a purchase at Barnes & Noble on Dec. 8, tell the cashier that you want to support the Friends of PLYMC, so that a percentage of the sale will go to the Friends. Yoga Class offered at the library
Friends of PLYMC is sponsoring a Yoga Class every Wednesday at the Poland library in the meeting room. Classes are from 5-6 p.m., and you pay as you attend. It is $10 per session and for more information, call 330-740-6086.
Blood pressure check at the library
The Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association will be at the Poland library on Dec. 4 from 10-11 a.m., offering free blood pressure checks.
Celebrate “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”
Join the Poland library on Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m. to use the force and celebrate the upcoming release “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Crafts, games, fun and refreshments will be served at this event for adults, tweens and teens.
Build with Legos at the library
Meet and enjoy creating Lego designs at the Poland library on Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. Legos will be provided. This event is for children who are ages 6 and up.
Friends of the Library meeting and presentation
Join the library as the Friends of Poland library meet and discuss monthly topics on Dec. 5 at 9:45 a.m. followed by a celebration of “Cookies and Carolers.” The Poland Seminary High School student choral group “Harmonically Speaking” will perform under the direction of Shannon Nicholson. The group will share Christmas stories and trivia. Hostesses will be Mary Lou Carbon, Philomena Mazzarino, Betty Maruschek and Ann Trefethern. Donations of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs are accepted at all meetings, to be sold on the Poland Friends Book Cart; sales benefit the library. The meetings are open to the public and new members are welcome. Membership dues are $10 for the year.
Bookstore book sale at the library
The Friends of PLYMC Bookstore will host a book sale in honor of the Tree Lighting in Poland. Browse the sale during bookstore hours at the Poland library Dec. 2.
Find the elf on a bookshelf
During the month of December, visit the Poland library to see all the places and mischief the elf, Dewey, is getting into. Look for Dewey on the bookshelf photos on the library’s Facebook page and Instagram and add some of your own.
Lighting of the Village at the Poland library
The Poland library will participate in the lighting of the village on Dec. 2 during library hours. Crafts will be available from 5:30-7 p.m., and songs and stories will can be heard from 6:15-6:45 p.m. Kravitz Delicatessen will be open during the event for cookie and hot dog purchases and will be giving away hot cocoa while supplies last. This program is available for the whole family.

Listen to a story and then have fun building with Legos at the Poland library on Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. Legos will be provided for ages 4-7.
Offbeat Book Club to meet in December
Join the Poland library on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. for this themed club. There are no required titles to read, though some are occasionally suggested. Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend.
