Riverwalk festival seeks entries for annual art competition

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Artists 18 and older who live within 50 miles of New Castle can apply for the fourth annual Arts on the Riverwalk festival art competition to take place at The Confluence, 214 E. Washington St.

First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded in up to five categories including, but not limited to, drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, pottery and/or fiber. Winners will be announced at the festival Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. Space permitting, all work will be exhibited and remain on view through Oct. 26.

Contestants must deliver their original works to the Hoyt Center for the Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave., on Aug. 19, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. All media will be accepted, with the exceptions of video and installation. Size is limited to 36 inches in any direction and 100 pounds in weight. There is an entry fee of $10 per submission with a limit of two entries per artist. Arts & Education at the Hoyt reserves the right to remove entries that are not deemed appropriate for a family audience.

Arts on the Riverwalk is an annual festival of visual and performing arts in Lawrence County through workshops, artist demonstrations, performers and activities for all ages. It features food, fireworks, art exhibits, competitions and an all-day artists market.

The Hoyt arts center and museum is open Tuesday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. ,and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
