Sanitation worker struck and killed


A 20-year-old sanitation worker died after he was hit by a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol report.

Troopers said Trevor Dotson, no address given, was crossing state Route 45, south of Palmyra Road, at 9 a.m. when he was struck by the vehicle driven by James Henderson Jr., 55, of Lisbon, who was traveling northbound. The crash is under investigation.

The tractor-trailer went off the right side of the road after hitting Dotson, striking a ditch and rolling onto its side, troopers said. Dotson died at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Henderson was not injured.

Suspect in homicide returns to Valley


Derrick Reber, 19, of Boardman, who fled to Pittsburgh after his reported involvement in a city homicide, is in the Mahoning County jail after being returned here from Pennsylvania.

Reber was captured in Pittsburgh a day after he – along with Vincent Reber, 21, and Lorenzo Hilton, 26, also of Boardman – are accused in a Sept. 5 homicide on Belden Avenue. He was returned to Youngstown on Monday, according to a sheriff’s employee at the jail.

A county grand jury indicted the three last week on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary with firearm and repeat violent-offender specifications.

Niles man severely injured in shooting


A 31-year-old Niles man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot twice while walking on Hamilton Street Southwest late Monday.

The man was shot in the arm and shoulder, rupturing an artery, police said. He was flown by helicopter from ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian.

The man did not provide information on a suspect or vehicle.

Security video from the hospital described a Ford sport utility vehicle that dropped off the victim at the hospital and sped away. His girlfriend said she awoke about 11:15 p.m. to the sound of gunshots and saw her boyfriend rush in and back out.
