Managing chronic health conditions

The Mahoning County District Board of Health is sponsoring the Healthy U Chronic Disease Self-Management Program and the Diabetes Empowerment Education Program at the Central YMCA.

The six-week Healthy U Chronic Disease Self-Management Program helps individuals better manage their chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, asthma, arthritis, heart disease, or hypertension. The class meets once a week on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., beginning Wednesday, at the Central YMCA in Youngstown, 17 N. Champion St.

Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP), for individuals with Type 1, Type 2 diabetes, or pre-diabetes, encourages small lifestyle changes while teaching about diabetes and the way it affects health. DEEP is an interactive six-week small group workshop that takes place once a week on Saturdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m., beginning Oct. 29, also at the Central YMCA.

Classes are free. Call 330-270-2855 ext. 109 or 330-744-8411, ext. 155, for information or to register.
