Ballroom dance week celebration


The local chapter of USA Dance is sponsoring three events in honor of National Ballroom Week.

A free Sunrise Dance will occur Friday from 5 to 7 a.m. at Kuzman’s, 1025 S. State St., with Candace Monacelli of “WFMJ Today.”

On Saturday, there will be a ballroom dance show and celebration from 12:30 to 5 p.m. at Eastwood Mall in Niles, in the main concourse.

On Sunday, the monthly dance and lessons will take place at the Orthodox Center, 1025 Bella Vista Ave., Youngstown. It is open to the public. Waltz lessons begin at 5 p.m., followed by more advance lessons. There will be general dancing from 6:15 to 9 p.m. (partners not needed). The cost is $10 for nonmembers.

Free lecture on Commodore Perry


The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s next Bites and Bits of History lunch program will take place Thursday at noon at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown. Belinda Vavlas, museum assistant, will speak about Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry.

Admission is free. Guests can bring a lunch or visit Overture Restaurant, across the street, for a special $6 lunch; call 330-744-9900 to place an order.

Fall Market with dozens of vendors


Canfield’s annual Fall Market on the Green, sponsored by the Junior Women’s League of Canfield, will be Saturday on the Green at U.S. Route 224 and state Route 46.

More than 180 vendors will be present. The event will take place rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Broadway show tickets on sale


Individual show tickets for the 2016-17 Broadway in Akron Series at E.J. Thomas Hall are now on sale. Prices range from $10 to $75 and can be purchased online at, by phone at 330-253-2488 and at the E.J. Thomas Hall box office, 198 Hill St.

The season begins Nov. 8 and 9 with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”

The remaining shows are “Once,” Dec. 6 and 7; “Rent,” April 4 and 5; and “Chicago,” May 9 and 10.
