Austintown honors 9/11 victims

Staff report

Austintown Township officials will mark the 15th anniversary of the terror attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa., at Austintown’s 9/11 Memorial Park, 1055 S. Raccoon Road, at a 2 p.m. ceremony Sunday.

Fitch High School’s Concert Choir will grace the day with patriotic melodies for residents to honor the victims of the tragedy on Patriot Day.

“We are privileged to have such a wonderful tribute to the heroes who gave their lives on that day, located in the heart of our community,” Trustee Jim Davis said. “We honor those heroes and those who continue to fight terrorism by remembering them with this ceremony and never forgetting the price they paid for our freedoms.”

Park Supervisor Todd Shaffer said the memorial is truly a beautiful place to go to for remembrance of the people who died during the attacks and current first responders.

”We are truly blessed to have a memorial like this in our township,” he said. “On this 15th anniversary, let’s not forget.”
