ASSOCIATIONS

American Association of University Women, Youngstown Branch, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at Shepherd of the Valley, 301 Western Reserve Road, Poland. After the continental breakfast and business meeting, Dom Grace from the Council for Better Nutrition, will speak. Hostesses are Luanna Jacobs and Regina Jenkins. The fundraiser is an old book sale. Tri-Gold Prime Time Chapter, American Business Women’s Association, will meet Wednesday at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. A social will be at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6. The meal comprises creamed chicken on biscuits, beef tips on noodles, mashed potatoes, vegetable blend, tossed salad and ice cream for $18. Cassie Nespor, of Melnick Medical Museum at Youngstown State University, will be the speaker. Local ABWA chapters will celebrate ABW Day on Sept. 18 at A La Cart. The 1:30 p.m. buffet will cost $20. AUXILIARIES

St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital/St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital Auxiliary will meet at noon Monday in the Azalea Room of St. Elizabeth Boardman. Guest speaker will be Anna Klejka, director of OB-GYN services at St. Elizabeth Boardman and St. Joseph Warren. There will be a tour of the Boardman maternity unit.

CLUBS

Mahoning Valley Civil War Round Table will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Antone’s Banquet Centre in Boardman. Chris Mackowski, historian and writer, will present “Grant’s Last Battle: The Story Behind the Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant.” The dinner meeting is $14 per person; reservations are required. COUNCILS

National Council of Negro Women Inc., Youngstown Section, will meet Saturday at the McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road, Youngstown. Transcendental Interest Group will have its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Park Vista North Lounge, 1310 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. This will wrap up the study of scientific secrets to a powerful memory. The group will evaluate the work of Peter M. Vishton, and study his steps to improving memory at any age. This group is for those interested in exploring the inner way of knowing. It meets on the second Wednesday of every month and is coordinated by Agnes Martinko. It is free and open to the public. LIBRARY FRIENDS

Boardman Library Friends will meet Monday in the library community room of the library, 7680 Glenwood Ave. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m., G.L. Mears will present “Allegheny Arsenal Disaster” at 10. Hostesses will be Jean Pulhulla, Cristina Raver and Loretta Culwell. Donations of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs will be collected on the first and third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. All profits help to support the summer reading programs.
