Scrappers pummel Bears

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers saved their best offense for last.

In Monday’s season finale against the West Virginia Black Bears, the Scrappers pounded out 17 hits in a 17-1 victory.

Todd Isaacs led the Scrappers with four hits and four RBIs. Jonathan Laureano contributed three hits and three RBIs while Gabriel Mejia and Jack Goihl each scored three runs.

The Scrappers hit four homers, a NYPL season high. Three of them came in the seven-run fourth inning that opened up a 12-0 lead. Isaacs, Miguel Eladio and Goihl connected.

Jonathan Laureano hit the other homer in the seventh inning.

Tanner Tully (4-1) earned the win in five innings of work. He scattered two hits without allowing a run. Tully walked two and struck out four.

Silento Sayles tripled while Jorma Rodriguez and Simeon Lucas both doubled.

The Scrappers finished the season at 37-38 which is the most wins since the 2011 season.
