It's official: YSU has student-enrollment increase for fall semester

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University’s enrollment is up.

The total head count of full-time and part-time students for the fall 2016 semester is 12,808 compared with 12,515 enrolled in fall 2015, Gary D. Swegan , associate vice president for enrollment planning and management, told the YSU trustee board at a meeting today.

The new freshmen class of 2,164 students is up from the 2,068 freshmen students the university enrolled in fall 2015.

Total new transfer students were 604 this semester compared with 569 in fall 2015. Total new graduate students of 433 compared with 410 reported in fall 2015. New college credit plus students totaled 664 this semester compared with 556 reported in fall 2015.

YSU’s college credit plus program allows students to enroll in dual-credit courses that earn both high school and college credit.

“We are up in all categories,” Swegan told the trustees.
