Outdoor rally set
Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., will host an outdoor rally, sponsored by Now Youngstown and Jericho Projects, from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday for city school students and staff with the message of a safe school year.
This event will feature free food and gospel music.
Paper-shredding event scheduled
A paper-shredding event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Shepherd of the Valley, 7148 West Blvd.
Participants may bring up to five boxes of paper to be shredded. No paper clips, binders, CDs, video tapes, books, greeting cards, magazines or catalogs will be accepted.
The Mahoning County Recycling Division also announced recycling collections will be Sept. 17 at the Goshen Township Recycling site, 12649 Seacrist Road, where household electronic items will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and tires will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Household electronic items will also be accepted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Canfield Fairgrounds government building.
Hazelwood will be closed for construction
Beginning next Monday, Hazelwood Avenue at Vestal Road will be closed through late October for road construction.
The detour will be Vestal Road to North Schenley Avenue to Donald Avenue to Hazelwood Avenue, the Ohio Department of Transportation has announced.
Vestal Road over Interstate 680 remains closed through mid-October for a $2.5 million bridge replacement.
