Harding is fifth; JFK drops to third

Staff report

Warren Harding’s 35-34 loss to Cardinal Mooney last Friday made an impact on voters in the Associated Press state poll of football teams.

The Raiders (7-1) dropped to the fifth spot in the Div. II rankings. They’ll have a chance to rebound the final two weeks of the season against East (1-7) and Howland (6-2).

The Cardinals (5-2) jumped up to 10 in Division IV after only receiving votes the week before. Mooney takes on Ursuline (3-5) this Friday at Stambaugh Stadium before closing out the regular season at Austintown Fitch.

In Div. VII, Warren JFK (8-0) is third. In Div. V, South Range is 10th. The Eagles play Villa Angela-St. Joseph (3-5) this week and St. Thomas Aquinas (7-1) Week 10. South Range plays at Indian Creek (7-1) before playing East Palestine (5-3).

Not quite making the Top 10 were three Mahoning Valley teams: Howland, 12th in Div. III; Struthers, 15th in Div. IV; and Springield, 12th in Div. VI.
