Rust Belt resurrects ‘Living Dead’
Rust Belt Theater Company will present its fifth annual production of “Living Dead: The Musical.”
Performances will take place at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and also Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29, with an additional midnight performance Oct. 29.
Written by Robert Dennick Joki and Josh Taylor, with choreography by Marisa Zamary, “Living Dead” is a send-up of “Night of the Living Dead” and other classic horror films.
It follows a group of strangers who board themselves up in an abandoned farmhouse in order to escape the zombie apocalypse.
Personalities clash, tensions rise, and musical parodies and dancing break out.
Performances are in Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., which is one of Youngstown’s most notoriously haunted buildings and a suitable spot for the spooky spoof.
This year, Rust Belt has added digital projection to help set the scene and enhance some of the musical numbers.
The cast includes Kage Coven, Nicole Zayas, Zamary, Chris Hartman, David Cirelli, Grace Offerdahl, James Hain, Celena Coven, Ryan Musgrove, Jayden Byrne, Lisa Torrence, Elizabeth Burnette, Jessica Patoray, Heather Powell, Missy Bookbinder, Josh Fleming, Rachel Clifford and Alivia Shablesky.
Songs include “Midnight Moonlight Movie Show,” “Ode To A Rotting Corpse,” “They’re Coming To Get You Barbara,” “I Got Your Black,” “The Slutty Girl Is The One Who Gets Eaten First,” “He Only Hits Me Cuz He Loves Me,” “Disaster Nudity,” “I Bet Things Are Beautiful In Youngstown Ohio” and new for this year, “A Typical Day in Western PA.”
Tickets are $15 ($10 for students and seniors). For reservations, call 330-507-2358.
